How Many Times Can You Take the GMAT?

There is no lifetime limit on the number of times you can take the GMAT. However, you may take the exam no more than five times within a rolling 12-month period, and you must wait at least 16 calendar days between attempts. For example, if you test on June 1, the earliest you can test again is June 17.

What counts as an attempt?

Both online and test center exams count toward the same limit. For example, three online attempts and two test center attempts within a 12-month period would bring you to the maximum allowed.  

Appointments you cancel before the exam, or simply miss, do not count as attempts.

Not ready for your test date?

Don’t throw away an attempt just because you don’t want to pay the reschedule fee. If you’re not ready, it’s usually better to reschedule and give yourself more time to study.
